Come on spammers, just try it
June 5, 2007
OK, maybe I shouldn’t be poking the bear like that but after what happened with my previous blog I really want to see my “spam blocked” widget in the side bar show something other than zero. This site is too new to have been discovered by spammers as of yet, but they’ll be here eventually, and I’m ready. I am running the awesome Akismet plugin to filter out comment and trackback spam. Even though I don’t update my old blog anymore I have left it online with Akismet running for testing purposes, and even though the site is still getting hammered it hasn’t let a single spam comment through.
Bring on the spam!

Spam Karma is a little more robust which you’ll find out if they really start attacking.
Here are my stats from Spam Karma for the last 5 months:
# Total Spam Caught: 362656 (average karma: -5921.54)
# Total Comments Approved: 2178 (average karma: 73.83)
Wow, the Spam Karma guy is dedicated. I think he’s on the right track in saying that there should be more than one really effective spam blocker out there, since if everyone uses the same one then everyone has the same vulnerabilities (Windows, anyone?). That being said, I’ll stick with Akismet for now and keep an eye on developments with both.
